NM Dairy Processors & Mesilla Valley Dairy Herd Improvement Association Test - March 1 deadline

Scholarship Criteria

  • Any student whose intent is to pursue a degree in the College of Agriculture and Home Economics.
  • Any incoming or current student at NMSU.
  • Any resident of New Mexico or El Paso County, Texas.
  • Students are eligible to apply for more than one year as long as they meet the guidelines.
  • Applicants shall use only the forms developed by the committee. Applications on any other form will be eligible for only one-quarter scholarship.
  • Applicants will be judged on a score card developed by the dairy committee on the following areas:

    • Preference will be given to students who have carried dairy projects in 4-H, FFA or high school. Other projects, activities and leardership. Be from a dairy background (immediate family involved in the dairy industry).
    • GPA minimum of 2.5.
    • Extracurricular activities in school.
    • Church and community activities.
  • Amount of Award to Recipients: The total annual earnings from the Fund (estimated $2,500.00 to $3,500.00) shall be used to fund tuition-only scholarships in the amount of at least one full scholarship, one one-half scholarship and one one-quarter scholarship. The payment of an awarded scholarship shall be divided equally between the semesters of the academic year. Any unexpended funds shall be carried over to the following year. In future years.the number and amount of sholarships can be revised by the committee as revenue and conditions merit.

Extension Association of New Mexico Scholarships - April 1 deadline

Mary Moore Memorial and 4-H $500 Scholarship

Scholarship Criteria

Criteria

$1,000.00 scholarship - Extension Association of New Mexico scholarship. The first $500.00 will be for the fall semester and the second $500.00 will be for the spring semester.

$500.00 scholarship - The Mary Moore Memorial Scholarship. The first $250.00 will be for the fall semester and the second $250.00 will be for the spring semester.

Eligibility Requirements:

The person receiving the scholarship shall be a resident of New Mexico and has been actively involved in 4-H. The applicant/recipient must maintain a 3.0 grade point average. Must be enrolled in or entering the College of Agriculture and Home Economics or a course of study in Agriculture or Home Economics. Application forms must be completed in full and received (not a postmark date) by April 1st of the year. Applicant shall send five sets of the completed form including the document to be filled in by advisor. The application must include Social Security number. Failure to meet any of the above requirements may result in denial of/or no consideration of application.

Criteria for Selection:

Based on application with:

  • 50% 4-H project work or achievement in project
  • 25% Leadership
  • 25% Community Service/Citizenship

Application blanks provided by the Extension Association of New Mexico shall be used by all applicants. These may be obtained from the scholarship chairperson or local county extension offices. Applications forms stating the applicant's qualifications regarding scholarships, leadership and service shall be submitted in quadruplicate by both the applicant and advisor. Application forms should reach the scholarship committee chairperson by April 1st of each year.

National Wild Turkey Federation's Academic Scholarship Program - January 1 deadline

Scholarship Criteria

National Wild Turkey Federation Applicant/School Information Sheet Eligibility:

  1. Students should be graduating seniors with a 3.0 on 4.0 scale or equivalent grade point average. (If transcript indicates a scale other than 4.0, student should have a minimum of 3.75 on a 5.0 scale, 4.5/6.0 scale, 5.25/7.0 scale, 6.0/8.0 scale, 6.75/9.0 scale or a 7.5/10.0 scale).

  2. Students must be pursuing a degree at an accredited institution of higher education (i.e. Junior College, Community College, Technical College, College or University).

  3. Students must support the preservation of the hunting tradition and actively participate in hunting sports. A copy of current hunting license is required.

  4. Students must hold a current NWTF membership (Xtreme JAKES, student or regular membership).

  5. Students must be involved in school activities (i.e. FFA, Ecology Club, Science Club, Beta Club, Student Council, etc.).

  6. Students must demonstrate ability as a leader among his or her peers.

  7. Students must demonstrate community leadership and/or involvement (i.e. Scouting, 4-H, civic group or club, volunteer work).

  8. Students must submit an essay and autobiography exhibiting dedication to conservation (see application).

  9. Three letters of recommendation must be attached to the application (i.e. teacher, counselor, community leader).

  10. High schools/students must submit complete applications to the local chapter by January 1. The local chapter president's name and address should appear on the application in the box provided.

  11. Employees and board members of the NWTF and their family members are not eligible to participate in the program.

Selection Process:

  1. High schools/students will submit applicant names and qualifications on an official NWTF scholarship application, along with required attachments, to the local chapter by January 1.

  2. Local chapter officers will review student qualifications and select local chapter winners that meet or exceed eligibility requirements by January 15. The local chapter will notify winners.

  3. Five Star local chapters will forward all local winners to the state/provincial chapter president with complete applications by February 1.

  4. The state/provincial chapters will review all candidates and select a state/provincial winner by February 15.

  5. State/provincial chapter presidents will forward state winners to the NWTF national headquarters by March 1.

  6. The NWTF scholarship committee will select the national winner by April 1.

  7. The national winner will be asked to attend the National Convention for the following year to be recognized at the JAKES breakfast.

Scholarship Levels:

Each Local Scholarship Winner will receive a minimum of $250. Each State/Provincial Scholarship Winner will receive a minimum of $1,000. The National Scholarship Winner will receive $10,000.

Disbursement of Funds:

Students may use their scholarship at any accredited institution of higher education (i.e. Junior College, Community College, Technical College, College or University). The money must be used for tuition, books, fees and housing. The NWTF chapter will work with the student and the college financial aid officer in determining the payee when the check is issued. This will ensure the greatest benefit to the recipient and avoid violation of eligibility requirements.

This is a one-time award for one year.

The NM Wool Growers, Inc. - May 15 deadline

Scholarship Information

A scholarship of $750.00 is being provided by the New Mexico Wool Grower, Inc. The scholarship is available to a New Mexico 4-H or FFA member who is graduating from high school the year in which they are applying. The scholarship is limited to a person who will be majoring in Agriculture at New Mexico State University. The scholarship will be awarded at the annual meeting of the New Mexico Wool Growers, Inc. Applications should be completed in full detail and submitted to your County Extension Agent or FFA Advisor. The applications should be forwarded to the State 4-H Office or State FFA Office by May 15.

NM 4-H Foundation - June 13th deadline

Scholarship Information

The New Mexico 4-H Foundation sponsors scholarships for New Mexico 4-H members. The dollar value of the scholarships awarded will be determined and announced annually by the Board of the New Mexico 4-H Youth Development Foundation based upon availability of funds. These scholarships may be used in-state or out-of-state at any 2 year or 4 year post-secondary college or university. Applicants will be considered without regard to age, ancestry, color, disability, gender, national origin, race, religion, or sexual orientation.

Any project area must be designated on the application.

The following scholarships are funded through the New Mexico 4-H Foundation and require a record book and Foundation scholarship form:

  • Jesse Holloway Memorial Scholarship - $1000
  • El Paso Electric Scholarship - Amount determined annually
  • Lyneberry Scholarship - $500
  • Torch Scholarship - $500

Additional scholarships may be awarded, depending on funding.

Scholarship Criteria

To be eligible an applicant must:

  • Be a New Mexico resident.
  • Be currently enrolled in their county 4-H program and be a graduating Senior.
  • Submit an application form and an up-to-date 4-H Record Book.
  • Have a cumulative GPA of 2.0
  • Submit a copy of high school transcripts with application.
  • Not be a family member of any New Mexico

4-H Foundation Board member or of the selection committee. The selection committee will be composed of at least three (and not more than five) of a combination of the following: State 4-H Volunteers, County 4-H Agents, 4-H Foundation members, State 4-H Faculty or Collegiate 4-H member.

Allen Chapman Memorial 4-H Scholarship - June 13th deadline

Scholarship Information

The amount of $1,000 per academic year ($500 per semester) will be awarded at the discretion of the Selection Committee.

Mr. Allen Chapman was a farmer and rancher in the Roosevelt County area. He was a strong community leader, serving as mayor of the village of Dora, coordinating efforts to establish a fire department and water system for the village. He was a member of the volunteer fire department that put out many wildfires in the area. He also served over 20 years on the board of the Roosevelt County Electric Association serving in all board positions. He was a strong supporter of 4-H and the local schools and believed that the "best insurance anyone can have is a college education." To honor Mr. Chapman's community leadership, his family has established this 4-H scholarship.

Scholarship Criteria

To apply, any high school graduating senior should submit his/her most recent 4-H record book (county or state record book that was submitted for the 4-H Congress trip) and the following essays:

"A 4-H Citizenship Event that Improved my Community" - one page, single-spaced with 10-12 size font. The applicant must have actively participated in the event and specify his/her role.

"How my 4-H Leadership Activities will Affect my College Experience" - one page, single-spaced in a 10-12 size font.

NM State 4-H Rodeo - June 13th deadline

Scholarship Information

The New Mexico State 4-H Rodeo Scholarship is offered to encourage 4-H Rodeo members to continue their education beyond high school. The scholarship should be applied toward a course of study at a college, university, junior college, trade school, or technical school. Applications are due June 13th of the current year to:

Scholarship Criteria

  • Must be a graduating senior of current year.
  • Must be currently enrolled in the 4-H Rodeo project in your county.
  • Must have completed at least two years in the 4-H Rodeo project, which includes completion of project Record Books.
  • Must have actively competed in a minimum of three sanctioned 4-H rodeos per year for two separate years.
  • Recipient must be enrolled as a full-time student in the college or vocational school of their choice in the fall semester following graduation and provide proof of registration to the State 4-H Rodeo Board Treasurer.
  • Applicant must not have reached their 20th birthday prior to September 1 of the current year.
  • Amount of scholarship will depend on funds available.

Vernon Hall Memorial Scholarship - October 1 - Receive in 4-H Office

Scholarship Information

This is an endowed scholarship of the New Mexico State University Foundation. Two $500 scholarships are awarded annually.

Scholarship Criteria

  • Graduating Senior enrolling in NMSU or NMSU student
  • Must be a New Mexico resident
  • Must have participated in 4-H
  • Preference given to Collegiate 4-H members

Valley Telephone Co-Op - June 13th deadline

Scholarship Information

Valley Telephone Co-Op offers a $1,000 scholarship specifically for active 4-H youth in their telephone service area.

Vinzant Scholarship - June 13th deadline

Scholarship Information

This scholarship was formed by the family of Willie Glen Vinzant and Edna Ibedell Lavender Vinzant. A minimum of $500 is available for 4-H members from Harding, Roosevelt, or Curry Counties.

Scholarship Criteria

  • Available for high school junior, senior, or current NMSU student.
  • Must attend New Mexico State University
  • Must submit a state or county record book
  • Must submit a 4-H Foundation Scholarship application form

New Mexico 4-H Community Service Scholarship

Scholarship Information

Scholarship will cover the registration expenses for Senior Leadership Retreat, Youth-Get-Away, Livestock School, Horse School, State 4-H Conference or a portion of the team fees for serving as a State 4-H Officer, Ambassador, or Diplomat.

Scholarship Criteria

  • Available to any Novice, Junior or Senior 4-H Member, serving as a State 4-H Officer, Ambassador, Diplomat or participate in a 4-H activity
  • Must submit a New Mexico 4-H Community Service Scholarship application Form
  • Application for New Mexico 4-H Community Service Scholarship
    Scholarship Applications must be received by the State 4-H Office two (2) months before the event registration or leadership position application deadline. Senior Leadership Retreat registration is due in the State 4-H Office on December 15th. Applicants who want to apply for the scholarship to attend SLR need to have the application submitted to the State 4-H Office by October 15, 2008. Applicants who want to apply for Ambassador or Diplomat need to apply by September 15, 2008.
