LAS CRUCES -- Leonard Lauriault began work recently as the new forage management specialist at New Mexico State University's Agricultural Science Center at Tucumcari.

He will study grazing management of irrigated pastures in eastern New Mexico. Included in that research will be studies about extending grazing seasons. "I hope to make life more profitable for our farmers," Lauriault said.

A native of Kentucky, Lauriault worked as a research specialist in the agronomy department at the University of Kentucky prior to his employment at NMSU.

Lauriault received a bachelor's degree in agriculture from Berea College in Berea, Ky, and a master's degree in crop science from the University of Kentucky in Lexington. While in school, he was a member of three honor societies -- Delta Tau Alpha, Gamma Sigma Delta, and Beta Beta Beta.

He served on the Kentucky Forage and Grassland Council from 1990 to 1996 and is presently serving on the American Grassland Council.
