For 75 percent of her time, Martinez will help organize 4-H activities for Rio Arriba County. She also will devote 25 percent of her time to agricultural programs for adults.
"I would like to go back to my community and do something for the youth," she said.
Martinez previously worked as a technician biologist with Los Alamos National Laboratory.
An Espaņola Valley High School graduate, Martinez earned a bachelor's degree in soil science from NMSU in 1998.
In her spare time, she enjoys swimming, running and camping.
