Baker Elected 1999-2000 National FFA Western Region Vice President

LAS CRUCES - Marshall Baker of Portales was elected by fellow FFA members to serve as the National FFA Western Region vice president during the recent National FFA Convention.

Baker, the son of Wayne and JoAnna Baker of Portales, is a freshman at Austin College where he is majoring in biology.

Baker is a member of the Texico FFA chapter. Bill Morrison, a graduate of New Mexico State University, is his adviser. Baker has served as the New Mexico FFA Association president and was the president of the national reserve champion parliamentary procedure team.

"During their year of service, the national FFA officers will each travel more than 100,000 miles, making hundreds of appearances on behalf of FFA," said Saundra Castillo of FFA headquarters at NMSU.

The officers also will meet officials in government, business, education and agriculture, during their year-long leave of absence from college.

FFA is a national organization of 451,997 members who are preparing for careers and leadership roles in the science, business and technology of agriculture. Local, state and national activities and award programs provide opportunities for students to apply knowledge and skills learned in the classroom.
