Belcher New Curry County Extension Agent

LAS CRUCES - Glenda Belcher, a Melrose native and three-year veteran as Curry County's 4-H/home economics program assistant, is now the county agent/home economics agent with New Mexico State University's Cooperative Extension Service."My goal is to maintain at least 10 Extension homemakers clubs and seven 4-H clubs in Curry County and support them through strong leadership training programs," Belcher said.

Belcher holds a bachelor's degree in home economics from Eastern New Mexico University and is pursuing a master's degree in agricultural and Extension Education at NMSU. She was owner/operator of The Craft Barn, where she created and sold craft items near her family's farm from 1993 until this year.

Belcher expects to continue school-based nutrition education programs, diabetes education and assisting with farm safety day camp. Having lost a neighbor to a farm accident and nearly losing her father in the same way, she looks forward to helping teach farm safety.

She is also excited about acquainting her clients with a new 30-day cooking program for preparing meals in advance. She said this is particularly important to rural families, who don't have the option of going down the street to a restaurant when meals aren't prepared.
